Bellaire Rolls Past Petersburg-Summerfield, Reaches for First State Title Game
GRAND RAPIDS – Katie Decker and Jacey Somers tallied 10 points apiece as the Bellaire girls basketball team secured a spot in its first-ever state championship game with a 48-29 win over Petersburg-Summerfield in a Division 4 semifinal at Van Andel Arena Wednesday.
Decker led all scorers with 10 points and 11 rebounds in what was Bellaire’s first trip to the state semifinals.
With the game tied at 10-10 after a quarter, the Eagles (18-3) pulled ahead for a 22-19 lead at the break and outscored the Bulldogs 13-3 in the fourth quarter.
Bellaire converted 15 Petersburg-Summerfield turnovers into 18 points, outscored the Bulldogs 30-2 in the paint and held a 37-22 edge on the glass. The Eagles also received 12 points off the bench in the win.
Seven Eagles reached the scoring column.
Destanee Smith led Petersburg-Summerfield (15-6) with nine points and six boards.
Bellaire will now face Fowler (15-4) for the Division 4 state championship Friday morning at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. Fowler handed Carney-Nadeau a 61-37 defeat in Wednesday’s first semifinal.
