Ferris State Falls to Grand Valley State in GLIAC Semis

BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State women’s soccer team saw its spring season come to an end in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 loss to Grand Valley State Friday.

Kennedy Bearden’s goal in the sixth minute proved to be the lone score of the game.

Jessica Radice turned away four shots to earn the shutout win for the Lakers (5-1-1)

The abbreviated conference-only spring season saw Ferris State win its first-ever GLIAC regular season championship in the 22-year history of the program.

“I felt the players came out and we executed the game plan that we wanted to,” Ferris State coach Greg Hanson said. “Obviously, it’s tough conditions, didn’t really favor either team with the wind. You make really one mistake in the match then that costs us a goal and then we’re just unable to find the equalizer. We gave up two goals all season, so a great effort from our players and our team and like I said, really looking forward, I think the future is really bright for this program.”

Taryn Meiste recorded three saves in goal in the loss.

Ferris State wraps up its spring season at 8-1-1.
