Fremont’s Walker Named Gatorade Michigan Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year

Fremont senior Nathan Walker has been named the Gatorade Michigan Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

He is the first Fremont run to receive the honor.

Last November, Walker and the Packers captured their second straight MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 2 championship and 10th as a program.

In the process, Walker became the first Fremont runner to win the individual title since Riley Klingel 2002 and the third since Nathan Moon first accomplished the feat back in 1946.

“I’m pretty proud of myself for it,” Walker said after receiving the award. “Normally, it’s not something that happens at this school. I’m super grateful to be chosen for that and all the support that I’ve gotten in and out of the school in our community.”

Walker is also a finalist for the Detroit Athletic Club’s Michigan High School Athlete of the Year award.

His running skills have gained the attention from a handful of NCAA Division I schools, but ultimately Walker decided on Purdue to continue his academic and athletic careers.
