Hesperia’s Sturtevant-Roesly, St. Francis’ Wilmoth Win Individual State Titles

Two local wrestlers took home individual state championships on Saturday at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.

Hesperia’s Aydan Sturtevant-Roesly won his championship in Division 4 at 119 lbs.

At 152 lbs, it was Traverse City St. Francis’ Gavin Wilmoth that took home the title.

20 total local wrestlers placed in the top eight of their weight classes in Divisions 1 and 4, earning them all-state honors.

Also in Division 4, Cole Hopkins from Evart placed second at 171.

Whittemore-Prescott’s Russell Wilson placed eighth at 189.

At 215, Mason County Central’s Andrew Quinn took home third place.

In the 245 weight class, Beaverton’s Jake Fischer was runner-up and Rudyard’s Marlon Staten took eighth.

Rudyard’s Bradley Hall took third, Mio’s Trennen Smith took fifth, and Hesperia’s Stephen Priese took eighth at 103.

Mio’s Tyler Demory took fifth at 112 and Mancelona’s Gage Tipton was eighth at 119.

Both Devan Nader of Whittemore-Prescott and Mack Baird of Hesperia finished fourth. Nader was in the 125, weight class, while Baird was in 130.

River Roberson of Hesperia placed fifth at 135.

Two local athletes finished in the top eight at 140, Pine River’s Gavyn Curnett in fourth and Onaway’s Dylan Crowe in eighth.

Evart’s Reese Ransom placed fourth at 152, while Whittemore-Prescott’s Kyle Fenner finished seventh.

In Division One at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Remy Cotton finished runner-up at 189.
