Kalkaska’s McCarty Wins Red Wings Helmet Design Contest

The Detroit Red Wings and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan announced the winner of their #MIKidsCan Detroit Red Wings helmet design contest winner on Friday, and the winner is right here from northern Michigan.

Kalkaska’s Drew McCarty won the contest with his drawing. Red Wings goalie Jonathan Bernier selected the winning helmet design and will wear it during Saturday’s game. Drew Mccarty Original Design

McCarty’s design was one of 113 entries statewide from children between the ages of 5-15. Four finalists were selected and will all receive autographed items from Bernier. Bernier’s helmet was painted in Sweden by artist David Gunnarsson and padded in Canada.

As part of the prize, McCarty will keep the designed and autographed helmet and will attend a Red Wings game.

Be sure check out the helmet Saturday as the Red Wings play host to the Dallas Stars at 7 p.m.
