Community Sends off Rudyard to First State Semifinals Since 1963
RUDYARD – The Rudyard boys basketball team began the long trip to Grand Rapids and Van Andel Arena Wednesday afternoon en route to its first state semifinal appearance since 1963.
The community sent the Bulldogs (18-2) off in style as they prepare to face Wyoming Tri-unity Christian (13-2) in a Division 4 semifinal Thursday morning.
“This group of kids this has been their dream to get to this spot,” Rudyard coach Jim Suggitt said. “We have a tough conference so getting through the conference is always a good thing but it’s been a focal point for the last year or two. And then last year not getting to play the district championship, it really lit a fire for these guys.”
First tip Thursday is set for 10 a.m. from Van Andel Arena.
