Sacred Heart Falls to Detroit Douglass in Division 4 Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS – Michigan State commit Pierre Brooks II scored a game0high 30 points as Detroit Douglass handed Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart a 60-41 loss in a Division 4 state semifinal Thursday at Van Andel Arena.

The Hurricanes held a slim 10-9 lead after a quarter but extended their lead to 25-12 by the half.

The Irish were making their first semifinal appearance since reaching the 2006 Class D state title game.

Zach Wentworth paced three Sacred Heart players in double figures with 15 points, four rebounds and three steals. Luke Predum tallied 13 points while Aidan Halliday had 11 points and four boards.

The Irish dressed five players Thursday because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Javantae Randle joined Brooks in double figures with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks.

With the loss, Sacred Heart wraps up its year at 20-2.

Douglass (16-5) will face Wyoming Tri-unity Christian (14-2) in the state championship game at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. Tri-unity handed Rudyard a 61-43 loss in Thursday’s first semifinal.
