HOUGHTON LAKE – The Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart boys basketball team is back in the state semifinals for the first time since 2006 after a 59-53 win over Frankfort in a Division 4 quarterfinal at Houghton Lake Tuesday.
The fourth-ranked Irish (20-1) held a 13-10 lead after a quarter and extended their lead to 25-20 at the half.
Sacred Heart is back in the finals for the first time since finishing runner-up to Wyoming Tri-unity Christian in the 2006 Class D title game.
With the loss, Frankfort ends its season at 17-6.
Sacred Heart will take on fifth-ranked Detroit Douglass (15-5) at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Andel Arena. Douglass handed top-ranked and two-time defending state champion Southfield Christian a 68-56 loss Tuesday.
