TC St. Francis Softball off to Strong Start in 2021
TRAVERSE CITY — Before Thursday night’s double header with Kalkaska, the Traverse City St. Francis softball program was riding high with a perfect 15-0 record so far this season.
The Blazers handed the Gladiators their first loss of the year when the teams split at Kalkaska’s home field.
TC St. Francis is still making a case for one of the top teams in Northern Michigan this year, outscoring its opponents 173-57.
“So we’ve been very fortunate, we’re blessed to have a lot of young talent. We’ve been getting out early on some of these teams which has kind of carried us through,” coach Phil Meeker said. “Obviously today’s successes don’t mean tomorrow’s successes right, so we gotta keep battling, keep getting better. We just can’t expect anything, we gotta keep putting work in.”
“It’s pretty cool, I’m glad my first season’s going well and we get the opportunity to play,” Freshman Leah Simetz said. “We gotta try to have more confidence at the plate and try to get all those hits and it’s finally paying off, so yea it’s a good feeling.”
Up next for St. Francis, the Gladiators take on conference opponent Boyne City on May 3.
