Consumers Energy AuSable River Canoe Marathon Set For July

GRAYLING – The AuSable River Canoe Marathon committee announced that this year’s marathon will be happening.

This announcement coming just over a year after having to cancel the 2020 race.

They plan to still have everything that makes this race what it is, including the sprints, the run into the river to start, and paddling all night long.

After getting permits and permission, they are full speed ahead for July.

“We got our insurance, we got our permits, the city of Grayling said yes, the sheriffs along the raceway said yes, we got Consumers to say yes,” said committee member Phil Weiler.

“We’re going to have a race,” he added.

With the race being over two months away, some of the details are still being worked out to follow COVID-19 protocols.

“Quite a bit goes into this as far as a safety plan,” said Weiler. “Obviously we don’t know what the state’s guidelines will be at the last of July so there’s some things we’ll have to at least look out for.”

The Consumers Energy AuSable River Canoe Marathon will take place the weekend of July 24th.
