Gaylord Alum LaJoie to Compete in Greco-Roman World Championship

GAYLORD — Gaylord alum and Cornell freshman Chayse LaJoie will be a part of the U.S. Greco-Roman Junior World Team, which will compete in the UWW Junior World Championships in August.

LaJoie won his best-out-of-3 match in the 63 KG weight-class in two, with an 8-0 tech fall win in the first and 10-0 tech fall victory in the second over Richard Fedalen.

This is the second straight year that LaJoie has won in this tournament, but last year, he didn’t get a chance to compete on the international stage because of COVID-19. He had extra time to practice for his return to the competition, which helped boost him to another victory.

“Since the (normal wrestling) season got canceled, I prioritized Greco. Normally it’s an offseason thing,” LaJoie said. “I was training with the club out (in New York), and I had a chance to wrestle at Junior Nationals and I won it.”

The UWW Junior World Championships will be in Ufa, Russia, from August 16-22.
