Johannesburg-Lewiston Looking to Continue Historic Success
JOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg-Lewiston has consistently been ranked in the coaches’ state poll in Div. 4 this year, currently holding onto the No. 7 spot in this week’s rankings. The Cardinals have a chance to make program history as well.
They are currently tied for first place with Inland Lakes in the Ski Valley Conference. The Cardinals (15-2) only have one loss in conference play against Gaylord St. Mary.
If they can win the conference this year, it will be their first conference title since 2006, when their head coach Cody Proctor was a senior at Johannesburg-Lewiston. This season, the Cardinals are relying on their senior class to see how far they can take them.
“To the boys, (the state ranking) means a lot, but to us we just got to play every game. It doesn’t matter if you’re ranked No. 1 or at the bottom, you’ve got to play every game, the game in front of you to win,” Proctor said. “So that’s kind of the approach we take no matter who we’re playing or when we’re playing. So we are senior-heavy, we have a bunch of kids that played football for us and they’re in a winning class and they’re ready to compete and do big things as a senior class.”
The Cardinals will have a tough test on Monday when they face Inland Lakes.
