Kingsley Seeks Another Conference Title, Postseason Run

KINGSLEY — The Kingsley baseball program has won 21 of its 24 games this season, and the Stags are sitting at the top of the Northwest Conference.

They have a chance to win their second straight conference title, with the previous one in 2019 snapping a 13-year drought. Kingsley has the talent to make a run in the postseason, but it won’t be easy.

“Almost everybody on the team’s been together 10-plus years, so we all know each other pretty well,” Kingsley senior Joe Moran said. “It’s definitely exciting because obviously last year we had nothing, so it’s nice to be back out here, for sure.”

The Stags moved up to the Division 2 tournament this year, and their district will feature three Big North Conference teams with Cadillac, Gaylord and No. 15 Petoskey. Ogemaw Heights rounds out the district, creating a tough scenario for Kingsley to win their first district title since 1994.

But they are not focused on that.

“Our focus really this year has been getting outs. That’s been our thing. Just get outs, as many as we can. If they score a run, we just gotta get out every time,” Kingsley senior Beau LaTulip said. “We’re taking it one game at a time, one win at a time, but obviously we wanna go as far as we can finish the season. Clear the board in our conference and then take it far into districts and maybe even further.”

Kingsley is scheduled to play at Kalkaska on Thursday to continue its regular season schedule. The Stags’ first postseason game will be against Cadillac on June 5 at 12 p.m. in Petoskey. The winner will play in the district final that same day at 2 p.m.
