Boyne City Wins Regional Title Over Big Rapids

COMSTOCK PARK — Boyne City won its second straight regional title with a 2-1 victory over Big Rapids on Friday in the Div. 3 regional final.

The Ramblers got on the board first with a goal by Jordan Noble in the first half, carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Cardinals quickly responded in the second half with a goal by Ariana Costie to tie it up. Ally Herrick scored the ultimate game-winner to boost Boyne City to the state semis.

“This is definitely a great effort from our girls. I’m happy that we won and that we came out on top,” Boyne City head coach Ed Fantozzi said. “When you don’t have your best game, it tends to not work out in your favor in the final of a regional.”

“It’s definitely sweeter,” Noble said. “And it’s been building up. Not getting that year built up the excitement. Just determination and stuff. We definitely wanted it.”

The Ramblers will play 11-time state champion Hudsonville Unity Christian on Tuesday in the state semifinals at Cedar Springs at 6 p.m.
