Cheboygan’s PJ Maybank III Wins LP Division 3 Boys Golf State Title, Sets Michigan Record

ALLENDALE — Cheboygan sophomore PJ Maybank III shot a 69 in the second and final round of the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Boys Golf Div. 3 state finals tournament to become the individual state champion at Meadow Golf Course at Grand Valley State University on Saturday.

Maybank finished the tournament with an overall score of 135 and wrapped up the final round with a 10-shot win.

With his score of 9 under, the 16-year-old also set the lowest score ever in a state tournament round for Div. 3.

Maybank adds the individual state title to an already impressive resume which includes a win at the 42nd Michigan Junior State Amateur Championship and winner of the Drive, Chip and Putt before the Masters Tournament as a 13-year-old. He’s also won several junior tournaments with the Golf Association of Michigan and other traveling golf circuits.
