Glen Lake Loses in Semifinal to Cardinal Mooney

EAST LANSING — Glen Lake’s impressive postseason play came to an end on Friday in the Div. 4 state semifinal against Marine City Cardinal Mooney, 12-2, in five innings.

Mooney got off to a strong start, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. Glen Lake didn’t score until the fifth inning, when Connor Ciolek and Mateo Gokey drove in one run each.

“You can’t ask for anymore from a group of guys than what they did. You know, we simply ran into a better team. My guys refused to acknowledge that it was a better team and I can’t ask for anymore than that,” Glen Lake coach Kris Herman said. “Nobody feels like celebrating it now, but the time will come when they take second and look and they check out the mantle and everything like that, they’re gonna be really proud of what they did this year.”

Glen Lake ends its season with a 27-8 record.
