LaFreniere Finds Perfect Fit at T.C. Christian

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Christian boys basketball team will have a new head coach next season, and it will be a familiar face to northern Michigan basketball.

Rene LaFreniere will take over the program after previous stints at Buckley and Mesick. He said he met with the players last week and wants to help the program win its first district title.

LaFreniere was also an athletic director at Buckley and Mesick, but stepped away from that role to take on a full-time position as a Missions and Outreach Director for Bayview Church.

“I knew that if the opportunity came up and I was going to get back in, it had to be an extension of the outreach ministry that we do, and Traverse City Christian was a perfect fit,” LaFreniere said.

He led Buckley to a pair of district title and his first win came at Traverse City Christian as the head coach of the Bears.
