Onekama’s John Neph to be inducted into MHSBCA Hall of Fame

ONEKAMA – Onekama baseball coach John Neph will be honored by the MHSBCA as a Hall of Fame inductee for his 26 seasons of coaching.

Neph first coached at Gaylo

rd St. Mary for 11 seasons starting in 1994. He made the move to Onekama in 2005 and continues to coach the Portagers.

Neph said the election into the Hall of Fame is a great honor, but impacting the lives of his players is what it’s all about.

“To be recognized by your peers in the coaching field is incredibly important and humbling altogether at once,” Neph said. “There’s some great coaches out there and to be recognized by these guys is just such an honor for me and for my family and it’s just incredible. To know that I’m an important person in the lives of the players I had the honor to coach, that’s really the thing that sticks with me forever.”

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Monday at Comerica Park.
