Cadillac Express Travel Softball Team Wins USSSA Midwest World Series
CADILLAC — The Cadillac Express 18U travel softball team competed at the Great Lakes Nationals USSSA Midwest World Series in Evansville, Ind. earlier this month where the team captured its first national tournament win in program history.
The Express went 3-0 through pool play before advancing to the semifinals bracket.
After losing to the Indiana Blaze in the first round of semis and heading to the loser bracket, the team worked its way back to the championship game to face the Blaze again in the double-elimination style tournament.
Cadillac then went on to beat the Blaze in two straight games to become World Series champions.
“We’re representing our towns and we’re representing this part of Michigan that doesn’t get a lot of attention for sports,” said Marion junior Georgia Meyer. “And especially after coming back from losing in the semifinals and coming back to beat them was a great feeling.”
“We only have one team and we don’t have a very big organization , so I just think we’re super underrated. And when we do come out and we just go into those tournaments and we’re just hitting and we’re just doing great, then everybody is blown away,” said Marion junior Harley Bear
“When we showed up to the world series, we came out really hot, hitting the ball really good and everything and we just knew we had to keep it going and we did,” said Cadillac senior Ashlyn Lundquist. “And I love all my teammates and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else.”
The team finished the tournament with an overall record of 9-1.
The Cadillac Express wraps up its travel season with college showcases in Grand Blanc and Petoskey.
