Jeff Blashill Returns to Sault Ste. Marie for Fourth of July Weekend

SAULT STE. MARIE – Detroit Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill returned to his hometown, Sault Ste. Marie, for the Independence Day weekend.

Saturday morning, city leaders held a meet and greet with Blashill at the Pullar Ice Arena. A couple hundred fans showed up to shake hands with the coach, take pictures and get autographs.

Sunday at 7 p.m., Blashill will lead the Independence Day parade as the Grand Marshall.

Blashill had nothing but praise for the city where he grew up.

“Ultimately [to] say thank you to the community for the impact they have had on me. So many lessons I have learned, so many people that have cared about my growth as a person, I can’t thank the community enough,” Blashill said.

After the meet and greet, Blashill was given the key to the city by Major Don Gerrie.
