Leland Names Sirrine Its Next Boys Soccer Head Coach

LELAND — In the last three years, Leland has established itself as one of the best boys soccer programs in the state. They’ve won three district titles, two regional titles and a state championship. And now, they will have a new head coach.

Rob Sirrine has been around that whole time as an assistant and he said that now as the head man, it’s not about changing anything but just building on the culture that’s already in Leland.

He also noted how the culture they have established brings on pressure to continue the success, but he prefers it that way.

“We don’t have the number of kids to draw on, like I mentioned we don’t have a JV team, but there’s definitely an expectation and I think that’s a good thing,” Sirrine said.

He hopes to build on those expectations, but it won’t be easy. The Comets just lost a talented senior class, which had four All-State players.

“We’ve got probably four or five seniors, so we’re going to have a really young team,” Sirrine said. “But we had a couple of freshmen step up and play in the state semifinals last year so, you know, we’ll be ready.”
