Pinckney’s Black Wins 2021 Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions

BOYNE FALLS — The 2021 Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions concluded with the final round at Boyne Mountain’s Alpine course on Wednesday, crowning Otto Black as the new champion.

Black, a Pinckney native and a Canadian PGA Tour player, shot a final-round 63 to win the $9,000 first place prize with an overall score of 17-under-par on the tournament.

He finished three shots ahead of Grosse Ile’s Jeff Cuzzort, who shot a final-round 65.

“Anytime you take a step back there’s someone chasing you, trying to beat you. So my goal was 10 [under] and I just made a silly little mistake on the last hole but I was so happy with the way I played,” said Black.

Black was just two shots shy of the course record of 61, but his 17-under, 199 total set a tournament record in the 29th Tournament of Champions.

Black will immediately travel to Iowa to play in the Iowa Open which starts on Friday.

Defending 2019 champion Jeff Roth shot 71 and tied with first-round leader Barrett Kelpin of Kalamazoo, and Crystal Falls’ Jay Jurecic.
