Sault Ste. Marie native and former forward at the University of Wisconsin Abby Roque was invited to be a part of the 2021-22 U.S. Women’s National Team Residency Program that begins in October at the Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.

Roque is one of 27 players invited to have a chance at making the final 23-player roster for the 2022 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team, which is expected to be announced in late December or early January.

She also has a chance to be a part of the 25-player roster for the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship, which is set for August 21-30 in Calgary, Alberta.

Roque is one of 11 players that will seek to make their first-ever Olympic team, joining former Wisconsin teammates Britta Curl and Natalie Buchbinder.

The team is made up of players representing 13 states, including two from Michigan in Roque and 2018 Olympic Gold medalist Megan Keller.

Roque made her debut with the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team in December of 2019. She was also named USA Hockey’s Bob Allen Women’s Player of the Year in 2020.
