Sault Ste. Marie’s Roque Makes U.S. Roster for IIHF Women’s World Championship

USA Hockey announced today the roster for the U.S. Women’s National Team that will compete in the 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship, August 20-31 in Calgary, Alberta, which features Sault Ste. Marie native and Wisconsin alum Abby Roque as one of the 25 players to make the team.

The roster also includes 15 members of the U.S. Women’s National Team who helped win gold at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

The team is made up of players representing 13 states, including two from Michigan in Roque and 2018 Olympic Gold medalist Megan Keller.

Roque was also invited to be a part of the 2021-22 U.S. Women’s National Team Residency Program that begins in October at the Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.

Roque is one of 27 players invited to have a chance at making the final 23-player roster for the 2022 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team, which is expected to be announced in late December or early January.

Roque is one of 11 players that will seek to make their first-ever Olympic team, joining former Wisconsin teammates Britta Curl and Natalie Buchbinder.

Roque made her debut with the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team in December of 2019. She was also named USA Hockey’s Bob Allen Women’s Player of the Year in 2020.
