Angers Returns to Lead Glen Lake
MAPLE CITY – There’s a familiar face back on the Glen Lake sidelines this year as Jerry Angers returns as coach of the Lakers.
Angers stepped down following the conclusion of the 2019 season to spend more time with his family. Angers led the Lakers to two state championship games, eight playoff appearances and 74 wins during his initial 11-year stint as head coach at Glen Lake.
The Lakers went 5-3 a year ago, winning four of their first five games before ultimately falling to Boyne City, 29-28, in a Division 6 district semifinal.

“This is a seasoned group and it’s easier to come back when you got a seasoned group and they know what to expect,” Angers said. “I think they have a bad taste in their mouth from last year and you know they’re just coming together as a unit which is fun to watch.”
“Last year we kind of just got thrown into things and you could definitely tell it was different in our game, we were really sloppy those first few weeks,” added senior Connor Ciolek. “We got to work really hard these first three weeks of practice and then we’re just prepared for that first game.”
Glen Lake opens its season at home against Houghton Lake on Thursday, Aug. 26.
