Elk Rapids Returns Young, Talented Squad

ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids boys soccer team advanced to the state semifinals last year, but this season’s team has the task of replacing the 14 graduating seniors from that team.

The Elks still have a talented roster, led by goalkeeper Jack Spencer and striker Mason Travis.

“We’re rebuilding this year but we have a lot of good potential on this team so we’ve got a lot of young guys coming in still learning but over the course of the season you’ll see us progress a lot more,” Travis said. “We’ll be winning a lot of games, I’m pretty sure.”

The development of their young talent will be key if they want to make another deep postseason run.

“You know, we’ve got skill and we’ve got talent,” head coach Nate Plum said. “We’ve just got to start to put it all together and kind of find our own niche.”

Elk Rapids started the year with a 1-0 loss against East Grand Rapids, another semifinalist from 2020.
