Kalkaska Looks to Snap Losing Streak this Fall

KALKASKA – The Kalkaska football team enters the 2021 season in search of its first win since 2017.

The Blazers went 0-6 a year ago and have gone a combined 0-24 since posting a 4-5 mark in 2017.

Kalkaska was forced to cut its JV program for one year in 2018 and fielded a young team last year.

Coach Jeremy Wilkinson feels the program is still recovering from that year without a JV program and believes this group of seniors can help change the culture.

“When you cut a JV program and those freshman and sophomores have to be up on varsity, it’s tough,” Wilkinson said. “They have to really outplay the juniors and seniors on the team so a lot of them aren’t getting that experience.”

“We have more people showing up, more people going to after school stuff,” added senior Blaine Barkovich. “It’s looking like everyone wants to win and we’re tired of losing.”.

Kalkaska opens its season on the road at Elk Rapids on Friday, Aug. 27.
