Manistee CC Emphasizing Conditioning

MANISTEE – With only 11 players on its roster, conditioning has been a major point of emphasis for Manistee Catholic Central this year.

The Sabers went 1-6 in 2020, dropping their final six games, including an 8-Player Division 1 pre-regional loss to eventual state runner-up Suttons Bay.

Senior quarterback Kyle McLinden is also hoping to finally catch a break after tearing his ACL his freshman and sophomore campaigns.

“The trust with the guys has always been there,” McLinden said. I’ve known them through basketball, baseball and everything. There’s just some physical stuff getting through everything, getting a little sore but coaches are here to help me out through that.”

“It takes a lot of conditioning though so out here we’ve got to be a little bit harder than maybe some other schools have to be just for the sheer fact that these guys are going over 150 plays every game between defense, offense and special teams,” added coach Jake Szymanski.

Catholic Central opens its season at Onekama on Thursday, Aug. 26.
