Reed City Eyes 12th Straight Winning Season

REED CITY – Reed City will kick off its 2021 season in less than a week, eyeing its 12th straight winning campaign.

The Coyotes had a disappointing ending to their 2020 after having to forfeit a regional final contest against Freeland because of COVID-19 issues within the program. Prior to forfeiting the regional game, Reed City had gone 9-0 and advanced to the regional via a forfeit win of its own over Kingsley.

The Coyotes dropped to Division 6 heading into the season, but after the team recorded its 11th consecutive winning season, they say they have some unfinished business to take care of this fall.

Reed City Football“Each year’s new, you know, and now it’s a new senior group and we want to make sure they leave their legacy the same way our seniors did last year, whether it was cut short or we got knocked out. But, last year that was the nature of the beast and I feel terrible for those kids, but we weren’t the only ones that had to go through that too,” coach Scott Shankel said.

“Taking what we couldn’t do last year with Freeland, we wanted to come out and punch them in the mouth and go straight to semis with Grand Rapids,” added senior Blake Daggy. “Just what we wanted and we couldn’t have it, now we’re taking it into this year and trying to use it as fuel.”

Reed City opens its campaign on the road at Cadillac on Thursday, Aug. 26.
