Shepherd Alum Hailey Ryan Named to Team USA for Powerlifting

SHEPHERD — Shepherd High School alum Hailey Ryan has been named to Team USA for Powerlifting.

Ryan will represent USA in the 84 kg. (plus) at the International Powerlifting World Championship in Stockholm Sweden on Sept. 28.

“I’m just really excited to go there and just try my best, just because it is competing on a world level and there’s gonna be people from different countries and everyone speaking different languages and it’s just going to be a cool opportunity,” said Ryan. “So just to think back from my freshman year of high school and starting to now being able to say I’m going to represent our country for powerlifting is crazy special.”

In May, she competed in the USA Powerlifting High School and Teen Nationals. She finished first in her weight class in the teen and high school division with lifts of 463-pound squat, 220-pound bench, and 440-pound deadlift. She also owns multiple state titles in powerlifting.

She started powerlifting because her dad competed in it in high school, but she didn’t know how quickly she would rise in the sport.
