Traverse City West’s Vaughan Honored by Detroit Lions
Vaughan led West to a come-from-behind 35-28 win over Midland in the season opener at the Battle at the Big House last Thursday.
Vaughan is in his 23rd year coaching football and fourth at West. He previously spent seven years as head coach at Traverse City St. Francis, three years as an assistant at East Grand Rapids and three years as an assistant at Traverse City West. He also coached six years collegiately at Hope College, Grand Valley State University and Randolph-Macon College.
Vaughan has an overall head coaching record of 90-27.
Now in its 25th year, the Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Week program awards a $1,000 donation to the recipient’s football program. All winners receive a certificate signed by Lions coach Dan Campbell and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, as well as a personalized game ball and acknowledgement at an upcoming home game. The season’s Coach of the Year will be awarded a $3,000 donation to the school’s football team.
Vaughan and the Titans welcome in Grand Haven for the annual Coast Guard Cup game at 1 p.m. Friday.
