Ferris State Soccer Brings Back Three Captains From GLIAC Championship Team
BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State soccer’s regular season GLIAC Championship this spring was the first in program history.
It was also the first time in 15 years that a team other than Grand Valley State won the league title outright (Ohio Dominican finished as co-champions in 2014 and Michigan Tech finished as co-champions in 2012).
As the Bulldogs look to stay on top of their rivals this season, they bring back a wealth of experience. The team returns four fifth-year seniors and three of them were captains last season.
Coach Greg Henson said he’s relying on those players to bring along some of the transfers and freshman on the roster.
“Really we just ask them to model our standards,” he said. “Model the behavior of what’s expected for players within our program. They do a great [job] day in and day out of living out our core values and living out what our standards are and holding their teammates accountable. And so we really look to them for that veteran leadership and so far so good.”
The list of newcomers includes freshman goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei, who has given up just one goal in the team’s two games this season.
Ferris State started the season with a 1-0 loss to Findlay but rebounded with a 4-0 win over Lindenwood.
The Bulldogs hit the road for a five-game road trip starting on Friday. They do not have another home game until Oct. 1st.
