Ferris State Volleyball Off to Fast Start With Young Roster in 2021
BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State volleyball team got its season started by going 3-1 this weekend in a home invitational.
The Bulldogs are a really young team this season as Nina Gorgijevska and Katie O’Connell are the only two seniors. Both players are fifth-year seniors after being granted an extra year of eligibility due to Covid-19.
Expectations remain high for the Bulldogs thanks to the program’s recent success and coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm is confident in her young players.
Brandel-Wilhelm said the biggest challenge for her team will be getting kills against older teams early in the season.
“You know the last time people saw us play was in 2019 and we had like three All-Americans hanging out out there and it was a little easier for us to put balls away,” she said. “But this year will be a little bit harder for us but we’re working on being a little bit better in our ball control so that maybe we can create one or two more opportunities to put those balls away.”
Ferris State will head to Tyler, Texas for a four-game road stretch and will return home to play Grand Valley State Sept. 23.
