Highland Conference Leaders Evart, Beal City Meet for Game of the Week

BEAL CITY – Evart and Beal City are the only two teams left in the Highland Conference without a conference loss and they square off in a week five matchup for the Sports Overtime Game of the Week on Friday night.

For the third straight season, Beal City (3-1, 3-0) is at the top of the Highland Conference and right there with them this year is Evart (4-0, 3-0). Both teams have 3-0 records in conference play.

“They picked up right where they left off last year. They’ve done really well. I mean, they do what they do a great job up there. They’ve got a bunch of great athletes and a bunch of great linemen and players, and we’re have to be on our A-game to beat them,” said Beal City head football coach Brad Gross.

“We know they’re a tough team,” said Evart junior Cole Hopkins. “They’re always a tough team, but we are always looking for challenges. And this is just the next challenge that we have to get to where we want to be, which is the conference champions.”

Friday night’s winner will take sole control of first place in their conference and has the best shot at securing a conference championship.

“To be the best, you’ve got to be the best. So we’re excited for the opportunity to compete against Beal City. They are a tremendous football team, well-coached, and we are excited to share the football field with them this weekend,” said Evart head football coach Pat Craven.

“We played them the first game last year, only won by a touchdown. So, you know, they’ve been getting steadily better. We’ve got our hands full. I’m sure, you know, they’re a great football team all the way around,” said Gross.

The Wildcats last beat the Aggies in 2015. Both teams know how important this game will be as the second half of the regular season nears.

“Week five is going to be a big week because it gives us confidence going into the rest of our games to come out and just play as hard as you can,” said Beal City senior Chris Whitehead.

Beal City hosts Evart on Friday night at 7 p.m. Tune in for pregame coverage of the game of the week starting at 6 p.m. and stick around for highlights and postgame sound from the winner on Sports Overtime at 11 p.m.
