Central Michigan Wins 26-23 OT Thriller Over Toledo

MT. PLEASANT – Central Michigan escaped with a 26-23 overtime win against Toledo on homecoming.

Central Michigan marched down the field on its first drive of the game, capping off a 14-play drive with a passing touchdown from quarterback Daniel Richardson to wide receiver Dallas Dixon.

Richardson hit running back Lew Nichols for another touchdown on a screen play in the second quarter, giving the Chippewas a 14-0 lead.

The lead reached 20-3 in the third quarter before Toledo came storming back. An 18-yard touchdown run by Toledo quarterback DeQuan Finn tied the game at 23 with 35 seconds remaining.

Central Michigan opened the overtime scoring with a field goal. A third down sack from Chippewas defensive lineman Jacques Bristol drove Toledo to the border of field goal range as the Rockets were forced to attempt a 51-yarder to extend the game.

Toledo kicker Thomas Cluckey missed the kick wide left and the Chippewas escaped with the homecoming victory.

Richardson finished 20-for-34 with 172 yards passing and two touchdowns. Nichols had 29 carries for 134 yards. Kalil Pimpleton led the Chippewas in receiving with six catches for 103 yards.

Central Michigan improves to 4-3 (2-1) with the win and will host Northern Illinois in its next game on Oct. 23.
