Clare Football Coach Kelly Luplow Gets 250th Career Win
CLARE — Longtime Clare football head coach Kelly Luplow reached 250 career wins in his team’s final regular season game last Friday. Entering this season, only 27 other coaches had reached that mark in the state’s history.
Luplow has been the Clare head coach since 1987, leading the program to 32 winning seasons and 24 playoff appearances. The Pioneers needed just six wins to help him reach that milestone this season, and they knew it was within reach.
“I knew that it was coming up, but during the game last week, that’s furthest thing from my mind,” Luplow said. “I didn’t know about it until I heard somebody yelling my name from behind. And I turned around and all the spectators had copied on a piece of paper with ‘250’ on it and they’re all holding it up. It was pretty cool to see that, but I’m glad we hit it. You know, but there’s more work to be done.”
The Pioneers will seek Luplow’s 251st career win when they face Gladwin for the second time this season in the playoffs on Friday. Clare lost to Gladwin in the regular season, 48-42.
