Leland Defeats Harbor Springs to Advance to District Semis
HARBOR SPRINGS — Leland picked up a goal late in the first half by Gabriel Trujillo to boost them to a 2-1 lead and the Comets held on to defeat the Rams, 2-1, in the first round of districts in Div. 4.
The Comets, who had a rough start to the season, have now won eight of their last 12 games.
“We were just saying in the huddle afterwards that what happens in the regular season doesn’t really matter at this point. No one’s going to really remember it,” Leland head coach Rob Sirrine said. “They’re going to remember if you won districts so it’s like a new lease on life for these guys.”
Leland will face Glen Lake in the next round, a team they lost to twice in the regular season by three goals.
“We’ve got talent. We’re a very young team but we have a lot of heart for the game and I think we can make something with that,” Leland senior Alejandro Corona said.
Their district semifinal will start at 5 p.m. on Monday at Glen Lake.
