Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Wins Regional in Girls Golf

MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart took home the Div. 4 regional title on Monday with a 10-stroke victory as a team at Mt. Pleasant Country Club. Shepherd and Central Montcalm rounded out the top three to advance to the state finals.

“It started out a little rough. A little rainy, a little wet golf course, but my girls pulled through. We had some ups and downs, but we finished up on top,” Sacred Heart head coach Rex Wiggins said.

Individually, Tori Shark from Pinconning had the best score of 83, helping her advance to the state finals. Shepherd’s Grace Bohannon finished in second place with an 89. St. Louis’ Josie Schrot and Clare’s Mara Pomerville also advanced to the state finals with their top 10 finishes individually.

The Irish had three golfers place in the top 10, with Taylor Cotter recording a 98 to finish tied for fourth. Nicole Olivieri finished one back of her for a sixth place finish, while Anna Terwilliger recorded a 105 to finish 10th. All three are seniors.

“It was our goal the whole year to win regionals, and I’m so proud of them,” Terwilliger said. “A lot of us, it’s our first or second year golfing and to do that, it’s just amazing. I’m proud of all the work we’ve put in together this year.”

The top three teams and individuals will compete in the Div. 4 state finals held at Michigan State University on Oct. 14 and 15.
