Sudden Death OT Goal Lifts Ferris State Hockey to First Win of Season

BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State hockey team secured its first victory of the 2021-22 season following a thrilling sudden death, 4-3 overtime win over Miami (OH) at Ewigleben Ice Arena Sunday night.

After Miami jumped to a quick 1-0 lead in the first period, Ferris State’s Mitch Deelstra notched the first goal of the game for the home team to tie it up 1-1.

After a scoreless second period, the Bulldogs trailed the RedHawks 2-1 heading into the third period. FSU’s Antonio Venuto scored at 04:08 to tie the game 2-2.

Late in third period, Bradley Marek deflected in a goal to put Ferris in the lead 3-2 in the final minutes of regulation.

A late goal form Miami tied the game again and forced a sudden death, 3-on-3 overtime. Midway through overtime, Ferris State’s Stepan Pokorny netted the game-winner.

Ferris splits the opening series of the season with Miami (OH), improving to 1-1. The Bulldogs take on another MAC opponent in Western Michigan for their next series starting Friday, Oct. 8.
