Beal City Ready for Another Semifinal Matchup with Ubly
BEAL CITY — For the second time in three years, Beal City will face Ubly in the Div. 8 state semifinals.
The last time these two met, the Aggies won, 21-20, to advance to the state championship where they eventually lost to Reading.
This year, Beal City and Ubly will meet in a top-5 matchup in the state. The No. 5 Aggies have won 11 straight games after losing in week one to Ravenna by one. They are coming off a regional title where they beat Carson City-Crystal, 34-14.
“Our kids are playing really well right now. We’re gonna enjoy this, but we’re gonna have hands full with Ubly,” Beal City head coach Brad Gross said. “I know they were in the finals last year. I’m sure those kids are itching to get back there. So, you know, we’ll have our hands full and prepare our best and see what we can give them.”
No. 3 Ubly looks to advance to the state championship for the second straight season after losing last year. The Bearcats dominated Breckenridge in a 65-6 regional final win last week.
“Ubly is a very good team. We’ve been looking at them all year,” Beal City senior Cade Block said. “But it’s gonna take a lot of hard work throughout the week. I think if we keep doing what we’re doing and do our game plan right, then it should be a good game.”
The game will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Mt. Morris. The winner will advance to the state championship on Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. at Ford Field in Detroit.
