Elk Rapids’ Run Ends in State Semifinals Against South Christian

CEDAR SPRINGS — For the second straight season, the Elk Rapids boys soccer team ended its season in the Div. 3 state semifinals in a loss to Grand Rapids South Christian. The Elks lost on Wednesday, 2-1.

The Sailors held a 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal by Logyn Huttenga and then they added another goal in the second half by Jordan Gabrielse.

The Elks scored their lone goal on a penalty kick by by Charlie Parrish, but they couldn’t score a second goal to tie it up.

“Three or four boys over here have been with me for four years. I’ll remember that,” Elk Rapids head coach Nate Plum said. “I’ll remember those memories with them. I’ll remember Jack [Spencer] going in there and just being a warrior tonight, plucking things out of the air. [I’ll remember] the run that we made, the games that we were supposed to win that we pulled through and we did win. The way they competed this year and put the building blocks together.”

Elk Rapids ends the year with a 19-5-3 record, winning its second straight regional title this season.
