Kalkaska’s Guggemos Signs With Davenport for Cross Country, Track
KALKASKA — After a successful senior season in cross country, Kalkaska’s Tyler Guggemos signed his letter of intent to continue running at Davenport University next year. He will compete in both cross country and track.
Guggemos finished in third place in the Div. 3 state tournament for boys cross country this season, finishing with a time of 15:59:91. He also won conference and regional titles this past season.
Guggemos qualified for states as a freshman and sophomore, but said COVID-19 kept him from competing in the state tournament last year. He finished in 12th place in 2019 and 72nd in 2018.
He said he had a goal of competing in college one day, and he’s excited that it’s finally here.
“I visited a couple schools and I visited Davenport before a couple times and met with some of the runners. They were really nice. They also ended up offering me a scholarship, and that worked out, too,” Guggemos said. “It’s amazing. I mean it actually happened, I guess. I get to run at the next level.”
Guggemos is also an accomplished runner in track, where he finished in sixth place in states last season in the 3200-meter run. He now prepares for his senior year on the track before going to Davenport next year.
