McBain Wins First Regional Title Since 2009 in Volleyball

HOUGHTON LAKE — McBain picked up a 3-0 win over Beaverton on Thursday in the Div. 3 regional final, marking the Ramblers’ first regional title in volleyball since 2009.

“I mean this is one of the goals that we set at the beginning of the season that we wanted to do this so to get there is fantastic,” McBain head coach Shawn Murphy said. “You know, I mean any time you set a goal back in August and you reach it in November. That just shows the vision that these girls had and the work that they wanted to put into it.”

McBain picked up wins in all three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-20.

“After achieving our conference sweep goal this was our next goal in mind after losing it last year. It feels great to finally be here and make it farther in the season as well,” McBain senior Ella Schroder said.

The Ramblers will compete in their first quarterfinal since 2009 when they made a run to the state semifinals. In 2009, they defeated Calumet in the quarterfinals, 3-1. On Tuesday, McBain will once again meet Calumet in the state quarterfinals at 6 p.m. in Grayling.
