Sault Ste. Marie’s Arbic Signs with NMU Swimming

SAULT STE. MARIE — Sault Ste. Marie senior Joanne Arbic has had plenty of success in swimming at the high school level, and she will continue competing at Northern Michigan University next year after signing her letter of intent.

Arbic won three individual Upper Peninsula swim titles at Sault Ste. Marie in the 50-freestyle and 100-freestyle races.  She also was a part of the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay teams that won titles for Sault Ste. Marie in 2021. The Blue Devils also won titles in the 2020 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay with Arbic on the team.

She will carry that success to Northern Michigan, a program that had all of the key factors when it came to choosing her next destination.

“I talked with a few other schools, but none of them had what Northern had for me,” Arbic said. “The location was really important and I got along with the coaches really well. And I love the campus and I love Marquette. That all played a role into me choosing (them) and they have a really good program.”

Arbic also said that NMU was high on her list after attending swim camps there.
