TC St. Francis Football Prepares for Division 7 State Semifinal

TRAVERSE CITY – No. 1 Traverse City St. Francis will look to keep its undefeated season alive as the Gladiators prepare for their second straight state semifinals in Division 7 football.

Their opponent, No. 2 Pewamo-Westphalia, is also looking to keep an undefeated season alive.

This is a rematch of the 2016 regional final, which the Pirates won 17-14 on their way to the state championship that season.

“With so much time in between the two games with Pewamo, I think the focus has changed a little bit. Not from winning the game, of course. But, the kind of game plan going into it on both sides of the ball. The stage, I don’t think, is too big for any of our guys and they’re looking forward to playing in another semifinal game,” said Gladiators head coach Josh Sellers.

Traverse City St. Francis is confident that last year’s semifinal experience gives them an advantage.

“Having to go the state semifinals and championship last year, it’s good having the senior experience and some juniors also,” said Traverse City St. Francis senior Joshua Groves. “We’ve been in this situation before; the final four. We just have to have a good week of practice and go 100 percent every play. ”
