Traverse City Central’s Burnham Named Butkus Award Finalist

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central senior Joshua Burnham is one of six high school finalists for the Butkus Award, which recognizes the top linebacker in the country every season at the college and high school levels.

Burnham, a Notre Dame commit, is the only player from Michigan on the list. Jalon Walker (Salisbury, Salisbury, NC), C.J. Hicks (Archbishop Alter, Dayton, Ohio), Jaylen Sneed (Hilton Head, Hilton Head, S.C.), Harold Perkins (Cypress Park, Cypress, Texas) and Shawn Murphy (Unity Reed, Manassas, Va.) were the other finalists.

According to the Butkus Award website, the winners will be announced on or before Dec. 7.

Burnham will compete in the state championship for Traverse City Central on Friday against Warren De La Salle at 1 p.m. at Ford Field.
