BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State football team held its final practice at Top Taggart Field on Wednesday before departing for the Division II National Championship in McKinney Texas set for Saturday evening.
Ferris State rolled to a 55-7 win over Shepherd last Saturday in the NCAA Division II Semifinals.
The Bulldogs have mounted an impressive postseason run, winning all of their games by double digits.
The team shared their excitement following their last practice in Big Rapids before loading up into busses to head to Grand Rapids for the flight to Texas.
“It’s exciting, you know, just fortunate enough to to be in this position, you know, several months ago, we we had lost in the championship game. Not many people can say they get to, you know, get back to that spot,” said Ferris State quarterback Jared Bernhardt.
“They’re just battlers. They’re fighters. And so, you know, regardless the outcome, this has been just a magical ride. We’re here in Big Rapids on December 15. You know, we started practice somewhere like around August 7. So it is one long season, but I’m proud of how gritty our guys have been,” said head football coach Tony Annese.
Ferris State will face Valdosta State in the NCAA Division II National Championship. The Blazers beat Colorado School of Mines 34-31 in the other NCAA Semifinal.
Ferris State met Valdosta State in the 2018 National Championship. Valdosta State won 49-47.
The national championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18th at 9 p.m. in McKinney, Texas.
