Central Michigan Star WR Kalil Pimpleton Declares for 2022 NFL Draft

MOUNT PLEASANT – Central Michigan star wide receiver and return man Kalil Pimpleton announced Sunday via social media he will forgo his final year of college eligibility to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Redshirt junior and Muskegon native ended his career at CMU as a two-time first-team All-Mid-American Conference selection during his three years with the Chippewas.

He was first-team as a wideout in both 2019 and 2021, while he earned first-team honors as a punt returner this season. He was also named the 2021 MAC Special Teams Player of the Year.

Pimpleton etched his name into the record books as the eighth all-time leader in career receptions. He caught 82 passes in 2019 which ranks sixth all-time. He finished two seasons as CMU’s leader in receptions.

He finished with 166 receptions for 2,100 yards and 12 touchdowns. Pimpleton also carried the ball 38 times for 293 yards and five scores, while also completing 7-of-12 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown.

Pimpleton also gained national attention as a return man. He returned two punts for scores in the first half of Central Michigan’s Nov. 3 matchup with rival Western Michigan, including a program-record 97-yard return late in the second quarter to give the Chippewas the lead.

He ends his time as a Chippewa with 2,574 total yards of offense and 532 yards in returns.

Pimpleton began his career at Virginia Tech, where he spent one season before transferring to CMU in 2018. After sitting out the 2018 season, he began his historic career with the Chippewas as part of the MAC West winning squad in 2019.

He was also selected to compete in the Collegiate Bowl in Pasadena, California set for Jan. 29.

Pimpleton helped lead CMU to a 9-4 overall record with five straight victories, including a 24-21 win over Washington State in the Sun Bowl to cap off the historic year.
