Charlevoix’s Peterson Signs With EMU for Cross Country, Track

CHARLEVOIX — Sam Peterson will continue running cross country and track at Eastern Michigan University next year, as the Charlevoix senior signed his letter of intent this week.

Peterson had another successful cross country season this past fall, placing sixth in the Div. 3 state meet with a time of 16:14.30.

He said that he’s proud to continue the strong tradition of Charlevoix runners going to compete at the college level.

“Being a Rayder is super important to me because we have a huge emphasis and we have such a tradition on cross country and track. Jeff Drenthe, my dad and all those guys that have come through here and done big things after is super special,” Peterson said.

He also follows in his father’s footsteps by competing in cross country in the Mid-American Conference, as his father, Matthew, competed at Central Michigan in the 1980s.
