Hart Girls Basketball Starts Strong, Riding Six-Game Win Streak

HART — After a run to the regional finals last year, the Hart girls basketball team is on a roll to start this season, riding a six-game winning streak.

The Pirates currently sit atop of the West Michigan Conference standings as the only undefeated team at 6-0 in conference play and 7-1 overall.

Their biggest win of the year so far came against conference rival Montague last Tuesday, a team they haven’t beaten since Jan. 17, 2020.

After finishing in second place in the conference behind Montague the past two seasons, the Pirates are setting their sights on winning the West Michigan Conference title for the first time since the 1992-93 season.

For a team that’s missing two senior starters due to injuries, the team said they will need to play even tougher this year to wear down their competition.

“Two girls that were freshman starters four years ago are out. So for the girls to battle and continue playing for them is huge. We run a lot. We preach physicality and get after it. So we jut trust the process and get better,” said Hart girls basketball head coach Travis Rosema.

“We kind of went by our motto this year, B-H-S-H, ‘Be hungry. Stay hungry.’ And I think our team really embodies that. And no matter how, I mean, this is a big game for us, but we still have to continue to play to our best of our abilities against teams,” said Hart junior Aspen Boutell.

Hart (7-1) will take on White Cloud (4-5) for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
